Unbeaten filly Karuta Queen has opened as the clear favourite to win next month’s $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), the feature race of the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival Race Day on Saturday January 15.
Online bookmakers have released the future betting markets on the 2011 Magic Millions 2YO Classic and at a quote of $3.60 Neville Layt’s well-bred Not A Single Doubt filly Karuta Queen is the shortest-priced entry.
Undefeated in her three career starts to date, Karuta Queen most recently ran the ideal prep for the $2 million Gold Coast feature when she claimed victory in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic on December 5 by an emphatic two and a half lengths.
The second elect to win the Magic Millions Classic for 2011 is the Gillian Heinrich-trained Military Grace, sitting at around $4.60 in the market.
General Nediym filly Military Grace pushed her career earnings up to a respectable $82,000 from just two starts last Saturday when the classy young runner claimed her maiden victory in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m) at Eagle Farm.
Military Grace is now out to repeat the feats of her older stable-mate Military Rose, who took out the Calaway Gal Stakes – Magic Millions 2YO Classic double last season.
Other early favourites in the 2011 Magic Millions Classic betting include Gerald Ryan’s promising Snitzel filly Schiffer ($9) who ran second to Karuta Queen in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic, the Gai Waterhouse-trained More Than Ready filly Not A Dream ($10), Heinrich’s other main hope Internal Revenue ($14) coming off a gallant second in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes at Eagle Farm and Calaway Gal Stakes runner-up Midnight Minx ($14), a classy local filly also by boom sire General Nediym.
Longer priced roughies that could prove to be excellent value come January 15 include Jet Spur filly Flying Jet ($31) who has already amassed $84,000 in prize money and In Excess ($41) for legendary trainer Bart Cummings.
