2010 Tasmanian Stakes Final Field & Preview

The countdown to the annual Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival heats up this Sunday, December 19th, as Hobart Racecourse hosts their first black-type feature of the season, the $90,000 Listed Tasmanian Stakes (1600m).

The 2010 Tasmanian Stakes has attracted a final field of 12 quality milers and will run as Race 7 at Hobart on Sunday.

Milochello will likely start the favourite in the Tasmanian Stakes on Sunday, Jason Clifford’s classy six-year-old gelding seeking their fourth consecutive win, drawn ideally in barrier four and able to handle the 59kg with ease having claimed victory last start with a hefty 61kg on their back.

One of the other top picks in the Tasmanian Stakes field this year is in-form six-year-old Dream Pedlar, the Listed Bendigo Cup winner coming off a number of impressive runs including a gallant fourth to Moudre in the Group 3 Queen’s Cup (2600m) at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

Other notable entries in Saturday’s Tasmanian Stakes that are sure to get money come in for them in the betting markets include five-year-old mare White Yard having shown potential at her most recent starts and impressive young gelding Socks, the three-year-old yet to finish out of the money having won five and placed in the other two of their seven career starts.

The 2011 Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival officially kicks off on Sunday 23rd January 2011 when the $90,000 Listed Hobart Guineas (2100m) takes place.
