The final field and barrier draw for the 2010 Razor Sharp Handicap has been released by Racing New South Wales, with a field of 18 quality sprinters set to face off in the Randwick feature this Saturday December 18th.
The $100,000 Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) is one of two black-type features on the Randwick race card for Saturday, the marquee event at the meeting being the $175,000 Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m).
Gai Waterhouse trains the top-weighted entry in this year’s Razor Sharp Handicap field with her five-year-old Swift Alliance set to carry a hefty 60kg.
Dual Group winner Swift Alliance is resuming after a five week spell, looking to return to form after finishing dead last in the Salinger Stakes at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.
Another multiple stakes winner racing in the Razor Sharp on Saturday is Anthony Cummings’ well-bred Street Cry mare Tallow.
Four-year-old Tallow is resuming racing after a lengthy eight and a half month spell, before which they were in red-hot form winning events including the Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) at Flemington.
Peter Snowden’s four-year-old Commands mare Kanzan also looks a top pick having drawn well in barrier four, ideally weighted with 53kg and coming off a number of consistent runs including their win in the Listed Skin Fitness Ladies Day Cup (1300m) at Hawkesbury on November 4.
Other horses that have draw well for the Razor Sharp Handicap on Saturday include Girl Hussler on the rails in barrier one for trainer David Payne and the Robert Heathcote-trained Funtantes set to jump from barrier three.
One of the other early favourites in the field is Hussonet six-year-old Ego’s Dare, the Gerald Ryan-trained runner most recently finishing an eye-catching fifth behind Whitefriars in the City Tattersall’s Lightning Handicap at Randwick in October.
Ryan also has his in-form five-year-old Ahdashim lining up on Saturday, drawn wide in barrier 17.
Other notable runners in the 2010 Razor Sharp Handicap including veteran eight-year-old The Jackal and Gillian Heinrich’s Queensland galloper Rasmussen.
The 2010 Bacardi Breezer Razor Sharp Handicap is scheduled to take place as Race 7 at Randwick on Saturday, jumping at 5:05pm (AEDST).
