2010 Christmas Cup Final Field & Preview

This Saturday, December 11, Sydney’s iconic Rosehill Gardens Racecourse is getting into the seasonal festivities as they host the $100,000 Listed Christmas Cup (2400m).

The feature event on an exciting eight-race programme that gives punters lots of chances to win some extra cash before the holidays, the 2010 Christmas Cup is one of the final black-type races in Sydney for the year.

This year’s Rosehill Christmas Cup has drawn a final field of nine classy stayers lead by the Gai Waterhouse-trained Rock Kingdom.

Top weight with 59.5kg and due to be ridden by Corey Brown, five-year-old Rock Kingdom has come up trumps with barrier one for Saturday’s showdown.

The gelding has had mixed form this season, but looked at peak fitness last start when running a gallant second in the Listed Canberra Cup (2000m) on November 28.

Chris Waller has three horses lining up in the Christmas Cup this year including his in-form seven-year-old Strike One.

Strike One is coming off two second place finishes including the Listed Gosford Cup two starts back.

Ideally weighted with 55.5kg, Strike One will jump from barrier four with Hugh Bowman in the mount before possibly heading to WA to run in the 2011 Perth Cup at Ascot on New Year’s Day.

Waller’s other runners are Gosford Cup third placegetter Alexander Of Hales and Bellagio Wynn.

Other Christmas Cup hopefuls include last year’s Group 1 New Zealand Derby winner Coniston Bluebird, High Chaparral mare Top Spot and in-form country Queensland galloper Spechenka coming off three successive wins in Brisbane.

The 2010 Matrium Financial Services Christmas Cup is scheduled to run as Race 5 at Rosehill on Saturday, jumping at 3:45pm (local NSW time).

Betting on the race will open at leading online bookmakers later in the week, so get prepared to start your Christmas season off with a win by opening an account with Luxbet today!
