As part of the Eagle Farm Racing action this Saturday, December 4, two black-type features will light up the metropolitan Brisbane track including the $100,000 Listed Mode Plate (1200m).
The 2010 Girl Fridays Mode Plate has drawn a capacity field of 17 three-year-old fillies and one emergency, with many of the early fancies suffering a blow with horror barrier draws including the top-rated entry Pyrography who must overcome the far outside barrier.
Paul Messara’s Danzero filly Pyrography, a winner of four of her seven career starts, has been in red hot form this preparation winning both of her Sydney starts but drew gate 18 for Saturday.
Still, with star hoop Corey Brown in the mount and the set weights conditions of the Mode Plate, Pyrography will be one of the favourites.
Other early favourites that have drawn wide are Bianca Jewel (barrier 12) and Norocos (barrier 17).
The Steven O’Dea-trained daughter of Lion Heart, Bianca Jewel is resuming racing after a four and a half month spell, before which she scored a win in the $250,000 2YO Plate (1400m) at Eagle Farm.
A promising barrier trial at Doomben on November 23 showed Bianca Jewel was ready to race and continue her imposing record of three wins and three placings from seven starts, and she will be ridden by regular jockey Ryan Wiggins.
Norm Hilton’s Show A Heart filly Norocos also faces a tough test from out wide, having never started further out than gate eight in her nine race starts and never having won starting wider than barrier six.
Still, Norocos has been in sensational recent form winning back-to-back races at the Sunshine and Gold Coast tracks in October before finishing less than a length behind Lady Montel in a 1000m handicap here last start.
The Darren Bell-trained Lady Montel is also backing up in the Mode Plate, the consistent daughter of Monashee Mountain due to jump from barrier nine with Jason Taylor aboard.
Deagon-based trainer Bell also has Fusette (barrier 15) and Catashee (barrier 14) looking for the win from wide barriers on Saturday.
Hidden Dragon filly Miss Imagica is another consistent three-year-old in the Mode Plate field, coming off a last start win in Toowoomba but she may struggle with the 55.5kg.
Faring better in the barrier draw and coming into contention on Saturday including promising Stratum filly Martika (barrier six) to be ridden by in-form hoop Jim Byrne and the David Kelly-trained Dubai Prospect (barrier two) who took out a Fillies and Mares Maiden by over three lengths at the Gold Coast on November 20.
The 2010 Mode Three-Years-Old Fillies Plate is scheduled as Race 6 at Eagle Farm on Saturday, set to start at 4:45pm (AEDST).
