Railway Stakes winner Gathering and defending champion Sniper’s Bullet will both miss the $500,000 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) this Saturday after being withdrawn from the entries for the latest Ascot Summer Carnival feature.
Twenty-three horses are still heading towards the 2010 Kingston Town Classic, but Gathering and Sniper’s Bullet are among 25 original nominations already scratched from the race.
John Thompson’s top galloper Gathering, who claimed an upset win in the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago, will not attempt the coveted Railway Stakes / Kingston Town Classic double that Sniper’s Bullet managed 12 months ago.
Instead, Thompson will send his talented Tale Of The Cat four-year-old back to New South Wales to be spelled ahead of an autumn campaign.
Gathering was the $7 second favourite behind Famous Roman in the Kingston Town Classic betting odds at Luxbet.
Seven-year-old Sniper’s Bullet will also miss the race, not lining up to defend their title on Saturday.
The triple Group 1 winner finished their spring / summer campaign a fortnight ago with a disappointing 13th place finish in the Railway Stakes.
Trainer Tracey Bartley has sent Sniper’s Bullet back to Mudgee.
The Bite The Bullet gelding was a $9 chance to win the Kingston Town Classic at Luxbet.
Betting on the Kingston Town Classic at Luxbet has briefly been suspended awaiting the announcement of the final field.
