Whitefriars Firms Further in 2010 Winterbottom Stakes Odds

The punters continue to get behind Sydney galloper Whitefriars for tomorrow’s 2010 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot Racecourse, the firm favourite shortening further in the odds today.

Rick Worthington’s in-form five-year-old Whitefriars has been heavily backed in from their opening quote of $4.60 to a much shorter $3.80 at Luxbet.

A strong preparation that has included three victories and a gallant second to Hot Danish has racing fans in a betting frenzy for the favourite.

As the only interstate raider in the Winterbottom Stakes field this year, it seems punters are shying away from the locals but experience at the Ascot track goes a long way.

The second elect in the Winterbottom Stakes betting markets is Waratah’s Secret who has drifted out slightly from $5 to $5.50 at Luxbet.

There is a lot to like about the David Harrison-trained four-year-old including their barrier one draw, imposing Perth record and ability to perform with the 58.5kg on their back.

Warhorse Marasco has had some love shortening from $6.50 into $6, the eight-year-old boasting a striking second-up record that should see them improve on their first-up eighth in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) here on November 13.

The 2010 Burswood Winterbottom Stakes will run as Race 7 at Ascot tomorrow and is due to jump at 6:45pm (AEDST).
