On Saturday December 4 Ascot Racecourse will host the final Group 1 feature of the Perth Summer Racing Carnival when the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) lights up the track, and the early Kingston Town odds are now open.
Leading online bookmaker Luxbet have Famous Roman as the narrow favourite in their All In Kingston Town Classic betting markets, the in-form six-year-old paying $6 to win.
The Jim Taylor-trained Famous Roman enjoyed back-to-back stakes win at Ascot taking out both the Listed Northerly Stakes (1400m) and the Group 3 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) before finishing a gallant second to Gathering in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) last Saturday.
Rising from relative obscurity in the Perth racing scene, John Thompson’s Victorian galloper Gathering stormed home claiming an upset win in the Railway Stakes on November 20 and will now attempt to emulate Sniper’s Bullet in taking out the Railway Stakes / Kingston Town Classic double.
Luxbet are paying $7 for Gathering in the Kingston Town Classic, equal second favourite alongside Playing God.
Neville Parnham’s consistent three-year-old Blackfriars colt Playing God bought their career record to three wins from seven starts on November 13 winning the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) in fine style and should be able to step up to the 1800m distance of the Kingston Town Classic and bring some stiff competition to the race.
Playing God’s stablemate and full brother God Has Spoken occupies the next line of betting at $8.
Winner of the Group 3 R.J. Peters Stakes (1500m) two starts back, God Has Spoken failed to impress in the Railway Stakes finishing eighth but has still had plenty of love from the punters to improve in the Kingston Town.
The two other runners at single figure odds are defending champion Snipers Bullet coming off a distant 13th place finish in the Railway Stakes and Gathering’s stablemate Trusting on $9.
The 2010 Kingston Town Classic final field will be released early next week and published here at Races.com.au along with a comprehensive form guide and betting tips so bookmark this site.
