2010 Jungle Dawn Classic Field & Betting Preview

This Saturday, November 27th, Ascot Racecourse is set to host the second of three feature meetings for the 2010 Festival of Perth Racing and aside from the marquee race of the day, the Winterbottom Stakes, the $80,000 Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) is another highlight.

The 2010 Jungle Dawn Classic has attracted a capacity field of 16 fillies and mares, plus one emergency, with top-rated entry Power Princess drawing ideally in barrier two.

Simon Miller’s in-form four-year-old mare Power Princess ran the ideal lead-up two weeks back winning the Listed Jungle Mist Classic (1200m), Miller’s first stakes win as a trainer, and is likely to start the favourite on Saturday despite being allocated a hefty top-weight of 58kg.

The Jungle Mist Classic was the first of a four-leg fillies and mares race series – the Geisel Park Stud Challenge – which continues with the Jungle Dawn Classic.

Any runner that wins three of the four races earns a generous $100,000 bonus for their connections.

Jungle Mist Classic second and third placegetters Lady Doll and Sunsilkin are also backing up in the Classic on Saturday.

Brian Lucas’ quality mare Lady Doll is drawn out wide in barrier 12 while the David Harrison-trained Sunsilkin is a good Place chance dropping back in the weights from 55kg to 54kg and set to start from barrier seven.

Another classy contender is Adam Durrant’s Kendel Star four-year-old Mabel Grace who made up for her failure in the Jungle Mist with an eye-catching third to Xaaravid in the Group 3 Carbine Club of WA Stakes (1400m) here last Saturday.

Mabel Grace is drawn well in barrier five and is one of three runners for local Lark Hill-based trainer Durrant who also has Le Plunge (barrier eight) and Canardly Miss (barrier three) lining up in the Jungle Dawn Classic.

The 2010 Jungle Dawn Classic is scheduled as Race 6 at Ascot on Saturday, due to jump at 3:05pm (local WA time).

Betting markets on the race are set to open at Luxbet shortly, so sign up with this Tabcorp-owned bookie today and check out the 2010 Winterbottom Stakes odds while you’re there!
