Black Felix Scores Ascot Hat Trick With 2010 Placid Ark Stakes Win

Star Blackfriars three-year-old Black Felix made it a hat trick of wins at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday’s Railway Stakes Day after claiming victory ahead of a quality field in the $80,000 Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m).

The Stephen Miller-trained Black Felix was coming off two wins at Ascot earlier in the month and after starting at $4.60, scored an emphatic one and a half length win over the favourite Even Astar ($3.50), with the roughie of the field Proud Hero ($21) finishing off the trifecta on Saturday.

Top jockey Nash Rawiller settled Black Felix beautifully, poised behind the leader, before pulling out a powerful finishing burst to cruise home.

A winner of four of their five career starts, consistent gelding Black Felix was purchased for $30,000 at last year’s Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale has now earned $175,200 in prize money.

Black Felix’s win gave his boom Victoria Derby winning sire Blackfriars a double for the day following Aquinas’ win in the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2400m) earlier at the meeting.

The next feature of the Perth Summer Racing Carnival is the $750,000 Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) this Saturday November 27th.
