Keepin’ The Dream Wins in Upset 2010 Gosford Gold Cup Result

The Patrick and Wayne Webster-trained gelding Keepin’ The Dream has caused a massive upset at Gosford this afternoon, running away to win Race 7 the $125,000 Listed Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) at $41 odds through Luxbet.

A six-year-old son of Keeper, Keepin’ The Dream won the 2009 Hawkesbury Gold Cup last year but had failed to perform recently finishing at the tail end of their six most recent starts including sixth in this year’s Hawkesbury Gold Cup.

But today Keepin’ The Dream ($41) returned to winning form and pulled out a brilliant late burst  to beat the Chris Waller-trained duo of Strike One ($16) by a neck and Alexander Of Hales ($13) finishing a further length and three quarters away for third.

The Paymaster raced keenly to take the early lead charging to the front and sitting at the top of the pack up until the 750m mark, before fading badly to finish last.

Moving up fast on the outside, Strike One got to the front with about 600m to go and lead down the straight until Keepin’ The Dream and jockey Tommy Berry came hard and strong out wide to hit the front with 100m to go, hanging on to win in a boil-over result.

$3.60 favourite Rainbow Styling was not disgraced finishing a close fourth after settling three deep in third, but unable to get a clear run down the straight.

Keepin’ The Dream has now won five of their 41 career starts, today’s prize money boosting their total career earnings to over $350,000.

The next big event for racing fans and punters is this Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot and odds are already out for the feature summer showdown.

Head to Luxbet now to get in on the action and if you sign up and use the codeword EXTRA400 Luxbet will double your initial deposit as a free bet!
