2010 Placid Ark Stakes Field & Tips

The Perth Summer Racing Carnival gets into full swing this Saturday November 20th with Railway Stakes Day at Ascot Racecourse featuring a number of top class feature races including the $80,000 Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m).

The 2010 Placid Ark Stakes final field features eight three-year-olds and a wide open betting market that has a number of horses with real claims.

Two of the favourite picks in the Placid Ark Stakes odds are Black Felix and Even Astar drawn in barriers one and four respectively.

The Stephen Miller-trained Blackfriars gelding Black Felix is yet to finish out of the money in their four career starts with three wins and one third, and comes into Saturday’s showdown on the back of two wins at Ascot.

Even Astar, prepared by top local trainer Neville Parnham, is a beautiful grey filly that has also won her last two starts.

The daughter of Kendel Star took out the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) here on October 16 and then backed up with a strong victory in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) last start, making her a very attractive choice in the Placid Ark.

Other classy three-year-olds that could cause an upset on Saturday include lightly raced gelding Uma Park (barrier five), Cockeyed Bob (barrier seven) having just their second career start after winning on debut at Belmont Park in September and improving filly Absolute Pleasure ($6.50).

The 2010 Placid Ark Stakes is scheduled to run as Race 8 at Ascot on Saturday, one event after the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) lights up the track, and is due to start at 7:25pm (AEDST).
