2010 Gosford Gold Cup Field & Betting Preview

On Thursday a super field of stayers will contest the $125,000 Listed Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) in New South Wales as part of the Gosford Race Club’s annual Spring and Summer Racing Carnival.

The 2010 Gosford Gold Cup has drawn a quality final field of 14 runners including reigning champion Spinney trained by Peter Snowden.

Eight-year-old Octagonal gelding Spinney took out the Gosford Cup 12 months ago after running second in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup.

This Thursday Spinney is back to defend their title but the veteran faces a tough field and must also overcome a wide barrier 13 draw.

Spinney is not one of the favoured runners in the Gosford Cup odds, out to around $40 in the online markets, after a number of disappointing runs this season including a last place finish in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup on November 4.

In a wide open field, there are a number of horses that have real claims to win this year’s Gosford Gold Cup including Rainbow Styling, Devils Arcade and Kimillsy.

Group 3 Naturalism Stakes winner Rainbow Styling is drawn in barrier six and is due to be ridden by Nash Rawiller.

Gai Waterhouse’s consistent four-year-old mare Devils Arcade is an excellent lightweight chance with just 53kg and has the ideal barrier one draw for Thursday.

Danehill Dancer mare Kimillsy has also drawn well in barrier three and is coming off some impressive form including their last start third in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup.

Other notable Gosford Gold Cup 2010 runners include the Anthony Cummings-trained Dealer Principal, Gai Waterhouse’s other starter Kontiki Park who finished second to eventual Melbourne Cup runner-up Maluckyday in the Tatts Cup at Randwick, and Group 1 New Zealand Derby winner Coniston Bluebird.

The 2010 Gosford Quarries Gosford Gold Cup is scheduled as Race 7 at Gosford on Thursday November 18 and is due to jump at 4:55pm (AEDST).

Our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet will open betting on the race shortly, so get ready to lock in their generous odds by opening an account today and if you join using the codeword EXTR400 Luxbet will instantly double your initial deposit as a free bet!
