The final field of acceptors for the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) has been released in anticipation of the first Group 1 feature of the Perth Summer Racing Carnival taking place this Saturday November 20 at Ascot Racecourse.
Eighteen top class gallopers have made the 2010 Railway Stakes field including reigning champion Sniper’s Bullet.
Seven-year-old Bite The Bullet gelding Sniper’s Bullet scored a solid victory in the Railway Stakes 12 months ago and is back to defend their title this weekend set to carry 58kg, 1.5kg more than they carried to victory last year.
Sniper’s Bullet will be ridden by Nash Rawiller on Saturday, who was aboard for their win last year.
The 2009 Railway Stakes runner-up Tarzi and third placegetter Colour Correct are also both in the field for this Saturday’s showdown, as is last year’s fourth placegetter Grand Nirvana.
Other notable runners that will contest the million dollar feature include Jim Taylor’s recent Lee Steere Stakes’ winner Famous Roman, top-weight with 58.5kg Black Piranha, and the three runners that finished in the money in last Saturday’s Group 3 R.J. Peters Stakes – God Has Spoken, Ranger and Impressive Jeuney.
God Has Spoken snuck into the Railway Stakes field earning a ballot exemption with their RJ Peters Stakes win last Saturday, previously sitting well down the order of entry, and joins stable-mate Tarzi as the two runners representing star local trainer Neville Parnham.
The 2010 Railway Stakes barrier draw will be released tomorrow as will the odds for the feature at bookmakers around the country.
