2010/2011 Perth Summer Racing Carnival

After the action of the annual Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival wrapped up at Sandown over the weekend, attention now turns to Western Australia for the 2010/2011 Perth Summer Racing Carnival.

Conducted over nine major Saturday meetings at the esteemed Ascot Racecourse, the Perth Summer Racing Carnival kicked off on October 30 with the Asian Beau Stakes Day.

Following this the Lee Steere Stakes was the next big attraction on November 6, followed by the WA Guineas Day last Saturday November 13.

The Ascot Carnival gets into full swing this weekend with the first Group 1 feature set to light up the track on Saturday November 20.

The $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) is the richest and most prestigious race held in Perth during the summer racing season and will be contested by the likes of Sniper’s Bullet, Black Piranha, God Has Spoken and Impressive Jeuney.

After the Railway Stakes Day the action continues with the $750,000 Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m), which is the premier sprint race in Perth.

The 2010 Winterbottom Stakes will take place on Saturday November 27 and early favourites to take out the event include Tony Noonan’s Patinack Farm placegetter Ortensia, local favourite and Prince of Wales Stakes winner Waratahs Secret, Fred Kersley’s eight-year-old Marasco and Salinger Stakes winner Whitefriars from Sydney.

The second Group 1 feature at the Ascot Carnival is the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) on December 4 where a similar field of gallopers to the Railway Stakes will face off.

Other highlights punters and racing fans are awaiting during the carnival include the Group 2 Cox Stakes (2100m) on December 18 and then the iconic Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) on New Years’ Day, January 1, 2011.

Races.com.au will be the first to publish the Perth Summer Racing Carnival feature race fields, form, betting tips and updated odds so bookmark this site to stay up to date with the latest.
