2010 Sandown Guineas Final Field, Barrier Draw & Betting Preview

This Saturday a bumper day of racing is scheduled for Betfair Park Sandown Hillside with Sandown Classic Day finishing off the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival for another year and as part of the action the $350,000 Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) will take place.

The 2010 Sandown Guineas final field features 10 quality three-year-olds including the Lee Freedman-trained Territory.

Lonhro colt Territory has draw well in barrier four and is coming off some impressive spring form including a win over 1400m at Flemington and a last start third to Bigelow in the Hilton Stakes carrying a hefty 59kg.

On Saturday Territory drops back in weight to 55.5kg making them a top chance to take out the Guineas.

Bigelow is also backing up with a run in the Sandown Guineas, the consistent Al Maher gelding seeking their third straight win, as is Hilton Stakes’ runner-up Yorkshire Lad.

Other notable three-year-olds entered for the 2010 Sandown Guineas include the Group 1 The TJ Smith last autumn Pressday looking to improve after a first-up 11th in the Coolmore Stud Stakes when he reared up at the start, Carbine Club Stakes second and third placegetters Goldstone and Condelago, and last start Randwick winner Bellissimo.

The 2010 Betfair Sandown Guineas is scheduled as Race 6 for Sandown on Saturday and is due to jump at 3:30pm (AEDST).

Betting will open on the Sandown Guineas and Saturday’s other Melbourne Spring features including the Sandown Classic at Luxbet shortly.
