2010 Maribyrnong Plate Field, Barriers & Betting

This Saturday the action of the Melbourne Cup Carnival for 2010 comes to close with Emirates Stakes Day at Flemington, and one of the highlight races on the card is the $150,000 Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m).

The 2010 Maribyrnong Plate final field has attracted 14 promising two-year-olds making for an interesting clash to start the day.

One of the top picks from the field of emerging runners is the Lee Freedman-trained Masthead, drawn ideally in barrier two and coming off a strong debut where they finished second in the Inglis 2YO at Moonee Valley.

On Saturday the colt drops back in weight from 57kg to 55.5kg giving them a nice advantage to claim their maiden win.

David Hayes’ Stratum filly Eramor is also set for a big race after winning on debut on October 13 at Caulfield. She will again be ridden by Danny Nikolic on Saturday and has a good barrier five draw to bring her career record to two wins from as many starts.

Robbie Laing’s Spectrolite is another Stratum filly coming off a win. She took out the AGL Solar at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day and is likely to start at the top of the odds for the Maribyrnong Plate.

The 2010 Hong Kong Jockey Club Maribyrnong Plate is the opening race of Emirates Stakes Day at Flemington on Saturday, due to kick things off at 11:10am (AEDST).
