Crown Promenade Stakes Betting Tips – Crown Oaks Day Race 2

The second race on the bumper nine-event card for Crown Oaks Day at Flemington today is the $150,000 Listed Crown Promenade Stakes (1100m), the first black-type race of the meeting due to jump at 11:50am (AEDST).

The 2010 Crown Promenade Stakes field features 16 quality mares following the scratching of #1 Tallow, #10 Avionics, #14 Sunday Rose, #16 Miss Octopussy and #19 Cat’s Pyjamas.

In a fairly wide open betting market, the current favourite to win today’s Crown Promenade Stakes is Jerezana paying $4.40 at Luxbet.

Originally one of the emergencies for Race 2 at Flemington today, the Peter Snowden-trained Jerezana has come into contention with a number of other runners withdrawn and is now the shortest-priced contender.

A promising Lonhro mare, Jerezana is resuming after a five month spell and after a consistent autumn that included a fourth in the Dane Ripper at Eagle Farm, is well backed to resume with a victory.

However, with a number of other classy competitors in the Crown Promenade the Races.com.au team are tipping an upset and have selected De Lightning Ridge to win.

Flemington – Race 2 – Crown Promenade Stakes Tips

  • Races.com.au Favourite: #3 De Lightning Ridge – Rated Special to Win at $6 Luxbet
  • Best Place Bets: #2 Very Discreet, #9 About Ready and #4 Dorf Command – Luxbet

The Joseph Pride-trained Tale Of The Cat mare De Lightning Ridge is coming off a solid last start second over 1100m at Randwick, and is a talented galloper that if they can handle their first go on the Flemington straight can win at good odds.

Runners to add into your multiples in the Crown Promenade markets are South Australian mare Very Discreet who drops back in weight today and has experience on the straight and distance, the Clarry Conners-trained Dorf Command coming off a solid sixth in the Group 2 Salinger Stakes here and About Ready.

Of the field the Mick Price-trained About Ready is the best Each Way chance having beaten quality males in a 1200m race at Morphettville last start, before which they placed third in two black-type runs.
