2010 Patinack Farm Classic Final Field, Barrier Draw & Betting Preview

The final field and barrier draw for the $750,000 Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) were released today in anticipation of the sprinting showdown scheduled to take place at Flemington’s Emirates Stakes Day this Saturday.

The two headliners in the 2010 Patinack Farm Classic field are of course boom sprinter Hay List and unbeaten mare Black Caviar, the stars set to face off for the first time this weekend.

The Peter Moody-trained Bel Esprit mare Black Caviar has opened as the clear favourite, paying $1.80 at Luxbet.

Black Caviar is set to jump from barrier six on Saturday with Ben Melham in the mount following the suspension of her regular jockey Luke Nolen.

Unbeaten in seven career starts, Black Caviar is coming off recent victories in the Schillaci Stakes and the Schweppes Stakes this season after she resumed racing following an injury-enforced spell.

Giant Statue Of Liberty gelding Hay List looks great value paying $3 through Luxbet, John McNair’s champion five-year-old asserting himself as the top sprinter of the spring with comprehensive victories in the McEwen Stakes, Manikato and Gilgai Stakes.

Having won a Group 1 this season, had a run over this distance at Flemington last start and drawn ideally in barrier two, Hay List looks very capable of putting an end to Black Caviar’s winning streak.

Other notable runners in the Patinack Farm Classic field that will be looking to cause an upset include the Danny O’Brien-trained Blue Diamond Stakes winner Star Witness ($9) coming off a Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes victory, Redoute’s Choice mare Melito ($31) second up after a spell and Tony Noonan’s popular mare Ortensia resuming racing on Saturday.

The 2010 Patinack Farm Classic is scheduled as Race 5 at Flemington on Saturday, due to jump at 2:05pm (AEDST).
