2010 Crown Promenade Stakes Won by Status Symbol – VRC Crown Oaks Day Race 2 Results

The first black-type race on the terrific VRC Oaks Day programme today has been won by another long-priced roughie with Status Symbol storming home to claim victory in the $150,000 Listed Crown Promenade Stakes (1000m) at Flemington.

The Ken Keys-trained Hemingway mare was ridden patiently by Craig Newitt, replacing injured jockey Blake Shinn, Status Symbol going out as a $51 chance through Luxbet adding great value to the Crown Oaks Day results for punters.

Alittlevolcanic set the early pace, leading the field and drawing them over to the outside rail.

With 400m to go the runners really bunched together, a traffic jam of three-year-olds all looking to push forward into the lead.

Briefly Flowerchild hit the front before Status Symbol weaved through the field in a perfectly timed run to claim a narrow win over Peter Snowden’s Jerezana with Zingaling flashing from nowhere to snare third.

Alittlevolanic held on for fourth.

The third race to enjoy a punt on at Flemington is the $100,000 The G.H. Mumm (1700m) for three-year-old fillies.
