2010 Crown Oaks Odds

The $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) is the next major showdown of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, taking place at Flemington tomorrow, and punters can find lots of value in the Crown Oaks odds.

Michael Moroney’s classy filly Brazilian Pulse has opened as the favourite in the Crown Oaks betting markets following an ideal spring preparation.

Brazilian Pulse won on debut in Ballarat before taking out a 1300m race at Sandown in September. She then went on to finish a gallant second to Sistine Angel in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington, place third behind Yosei in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and then sealed her Crown Oaks favouritism with a win in the Wakeful Stakes (2000m) last start.

Luxbet have Brazilian Pulse at $3.50 to win the Crown Oaks tomorrow.

The two equal second favourites are Precious Lorraine and Sasa paying $4.80.

AAMI Vase fourth placegetter, David Hayes’ Encosta De Lago filly Precious Lorraine opened at $6 but has had big money come in for her shortening into $5 and then firming to $4.80 at Luxbet today.

Sasa is another daughter of Encosta De Lago who has gained popularity with the punters, in from $5.50 to $4.80.

Kittens is the only other Crown Oaks hopeful that has shortened from their original quote, the Mark Kavanagh-trained daughter of Redoute’s Choice paying $14 after starting at $15.

Value picks in the Crown Oaks field that have claims to cause an upset at double figure odds include Thousand Guineas winner Yosei (out from $10 to $11), Heartsareforlove ($17) drawn on the rails and Danny O’Brien’s emerging Savabeel filly Placement (out from $8.50 to $10).
