Jockey Frankie Dettori Arrives in Australia to Ride Holberg in 2010 Melbourne Cup

Star European jockey Frankie Dettori has arrived in Australia ready to ride Holberg in the 2010 Melbourne Cup at Flemington Racecourse tomorrow, Tuesday November 2.

Five-year-old Halling entire Holberg is Melbourne Cup horse number 19 in the 24-horse Melbourne Cup field for tomorrow’s $6 million showdown.

Dettori is the number one rider for the revered Godolphin stable and will be at his lightest ever weight to take the mount on Holberg tomorrow.

Holberg’s Melbourne Cup weight is just 53.5kg, the same weight allocated to Luca Cumani’s Bauer, Red Ruler and the Bart Cummings’ trained Precedence.

It will be the 11th Melbourne Cup Dettori has ridden in, his first since riding Geordieland in the 2006 Melbourne Cup won by Japan’s Delta Blues.

Holberg is currently paying $18 in the Melbourne Cup markets at Luxbet and is one of two runners for Godolphin in the 150th Melbourne Cup.

The other entrant for the powerful stable is Campanologist, due to be ridden by previous Melbourne Cup winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy, aboard Brew for the 2000 Melbourne Cup win.

McEvoy was in last year’s Melbourne Cup aboard runner-up Crime Scene and rates Campanologist as a top chance in the 2010 Melbourne Cup tomorrow.

Six-year-old Campanologist, who won back-to-back Group 1 races in Germany before finishing a gallant third to Dangerous Midge in the Art Trial last start, is set to carry 56kg tomorrow.

The weight is equal to that of hot favourite So You Think.

Fully qualified to carry the weight, having had 60kg or more at their last three starts, Campanologist has real claims to become the 2010 Melbourne Cup winner and is at a very lucrative $51 at Luxbet.

Godolphin have run second in the Melbourne Cup three times with Central Park (1999), Give The Slip (2001) and Crime Scene (2009) and a third with Beekeeper (2002), so are seeking their maiden Melbourne Cup victory tomorrow.
