Wet Track Race Tips for Melbourne Cup Day 2010

These are the horses to follow if the Flemington track is slow or worse on Melbourne Cup Day. Make no mistake, if a horse can’t handle the wet it won’t on Cup Day either. So don’t be tempted by juicy odds on your favourite horses, back the horses that can handle the conditions.

Race 1 – AGL SOLAR POWER STAKES – Don’t bet on this race, it is a 2 year old race

Race 2 – SCHIAVELLO PLATE – Aloha and Vintedge will go well on a wet track and Royal Commands is ok, Belscenica can handle the wet too but we are not sure about the form. Do not back Slapstick or Casual Friday

Race 3 – THE LAVAZZA LONG BLACK – Miles Above, Kerdem, Im Imposing and Irazu all handle wet tracks ok. Saddlers Story can’t run a yard in the wet, neither can 19 , 11 , 16 or 12

Race 4 – HERALD SUN STAKES – Horses that can handle a wet track include Montana Flyer, Venus World, Dollops, Devils Arcade, Orbiting Bell, Kryptelon and Venus World. These ones that don’t are Dysphonia, Returntosender, Red Flair, Happy Hippy, Acquired and Take All Of Me.

Race 5 – SCHWEPPES TONIC 1000 – The following horses can swim: Sleepers, Trudeau and Spurcific. The horses that can’t go in the wet are Marmaa, Stirling Grove and Mercenaire.

Race 6 – LEXUS HYBRID PLATE – Horses that can handle a wet track are Alotta Spur, Shiny And New and, appropriately, Dance Of The Ocean. The horses that can’t are Jesses Girl, Follonica and Life Is A Cabaret.

Race 7 – EMIRATES MELBOURNE CUP – For the Cup you can back the following horses with confidence on a rain affected track:

  • Descarado
  • So You Think
  • Harris Tweed
  • Monaco Consul
  • Linton
  • Shoot Out

These horses are suspect on any ground worse than a Slow 5:

  • Shocking
  • Precedence
  • Maluckyday
  • Zipping
  • Manighar
  • Once Were Wild
  • Mr Medici
  • Campanologist
  • Profound Beauty
  • Zavite
  • Americain
  • Master O’Reilly
  • Holberg
  • Illustrious Blue
  • Red Ruler
  • Tokai Trick
  • Buccellati
  • Bauer

Race 8 – BUNDABERG DISTILLING CO. STAKES – These horses are ok in the wet; Our Lukas, Hidden Wonder, Tagus, Rock Kingdom and Firebolt. Nothing else is much good on rain affected ground, the winner should come from those mentioned.

Race 9 – MSS SECURITY SPRINT – The Handsome One, Indian Diamond and Produced have wet track form so out of them you would think The Handsome One gets the nod. Of the rest nothing has done much on the wet.

Race 10 – TAB CELEBRATING 50 YEARS HCP0 – Testapal, Overtake, Into The Sun and Balavan are the only hopes if it’s a wet track on tuesday in the last race of the day.
