Mackinnon Stakes Winner So You Think Runs Ideal 2010 Melbourne Cup Trial – Derby Day Race 5 Results

The legend continued with Bart Cummings’ superstar So You Think today who won one of the major Victoria Derby Day showdowns at Flemington, beating a crack field in the $1 million Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m).

The red hot favourite, So You Think was simply magnificent continuing his commanding spring record with his fifth win from as many starts this season.

Backing up from his second successive Cox Plate win, So You Think was far too good for his rivals in the Mackinnon today, possibly his most telling performance.

Jockey Steven Arnold settled So You Think beautifully, the son of High Chaparral poised in fourth as Descarado and Ginga Dude ran to the lead early.

So You Think moved up with great purpose taking to the front with 200m to go, pulling away with ease after Arnold let him go and striding to a comprehensive three length victory.

In a sensational staying performance by Kiwi galloper Ginga Dude, the Graeme Boyd-trained gelding hung on to finish third behind Caulfield Cup winner, pacesetter and runner-up Descarado.

So You Think has now won eight of his 11 career starts, today’s prize money pushing his total career earnings to over $5 million.

No doubts that So You Think will now surpass Shocking in the Melbourne Cup odds, and possibly start as the shortest Melbourne Cup favourite in history since the mighty Phar Lap.

Next up is the race punters and racing fans have been waiting for, Race 6 – the $1.5million Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m).

There’s still time to get your bets down on the Derby for 2010, so head to Luxbet now and ensure you get the hottest price on your favourites!
