Chris Waller’s fillies dominate the nominations...
The opening race on the Victoria Derby Day card at Flemington this morning is Race 1 – the $250,000 Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) – due to kick things off at 11:10am (AEDST).
The 2010 Inglis Carbine Club Stakes field features eight classy three-year-old gallopers lead by the highly rated favourite Skilled, at the top of the odds paying $2.10 at Luxbet.
The Peter Snowden-trained Commands colt has improved tremendously at their last two starts, finishing third to Anacheeva in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) and then placing a gallant second to Mr Chard in the Gothic Stakes on a Heavy track at Caulfield last start.
Dropping back a little in weight today and drawn ideally midfield in barrier five, Skilled looks hard to beat and the Races.com.au team are tipping the favourite.
Flemington – Race 1 – Carbine Club Stakes
- Races.com.au Favourite: #1 Skilled – Rated Special to Win at $2.10 Luxbet
- Best Horses to Box into a Trifecta: #2 Mr Chard, #6 Kookaburras and #4 Ace Acosta – Luxbet
To add extra value with the Victoria Derby Day exotic markets, we have selected three other runners in the field to box into a trifecta with the favourites for the opening race.
Mr Chard was able to defeat Skilled in the Gothic Stakes last start and in the wet conditions could cause another upset, however they will carry an extra 1kg today.
If it is raining come jump time, Mr Chard for the win.
Lee Freedman’s Kookaburras was super impressive at Geelong last start and cannot be dismissed while Ace Acosta, if they can sit well on the pace, can produce a Place here.
