The 2010 Victoria Derby will be run at Flemington tomorrow, the first Group 1 race of the highly anticipated Melbourne Cup Carnival, and as jump time for the three-year-olds’ classic draws closer the Victoria Derby odds continue to fluctuate.
AAMI Vase winner Rekindled Interest is still the favourite to win the $1.5 million Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) tomorrow, out to $3.60 after opening at $3.20 through Luxbet.
Should be no concerns over the distance and the rain-affected ground also shouldn’t be a concern after they won the Danehill here on a Heavy track.
Second favourite, Peter Snowden’s Retrieve has also drifted out from $3.70 to $3.90 in the past day.
Despite being a proven heavy performer, the inside running from barrier two could be a concern.
Horses that have firmed in the Victoria Derby Odds include:
- #4 Smokin Joey – in from $13 to $11 at Luxbet
Punters are starting to forget their awful AAMI Vase run (11th). Have a tongue tie added to the gear tomorrow giving them a chance.
- #5 Praecido – in from $19 to $15 at Luxbet
Wider barrier 12 draw could prove an advantage by the sixth race. This colt has finished second to Lion Tamer on a Heavy Randwick track, third to Retrieve and is coming off a Group 1 third place in the Spring Champion Stakes – add into the exotics for sure.
