2010 Salinger Stakes Field & Barrier Draw – Melbourne Cup Carnival Day 1

For punters that love the fast-paced action of the sprint races, Flemington is host to the $300,000 Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) this Saturday featuring an exciting field of top sprinters.

The 2010 Salinger Stakes, one of the nine Group races on the Victoria Derby Day card for Saturday, field features 14 horses including multiple Group 1 winner All Silent.

Resuming racing for the season with a solid fifth to Hay List in the Manikato Stakes, All Silent failed at his last start finishing dead last in the Moonga Stakes at Caulfield, however a pleasing gallop earlier in the week and a favourable barrier four draw put All Silent back into the mix for Saturday.

One of the runners sure to be at the top of the odds for the Salinger Stakes is the Mark Kavanagh-trained Catapulted.

The consistent Catbird gelding has enjoyed two second place finishes this preparation, finishing runner-up behind Hay List in the McEwen and the Gilgai Stakes, and with Hay List not lining up on Saturday Catapulted becomes a top chance.

Other notable runners in the Salinger Stakes this year include Con Karakatsanis’ seven-year-old Black Piranha (barrier 12), the Gai Waterhouse-trained Swift Alliance resuming racing after a six month spell, Peter Moody’s Caulfield Sprint winner Set For Fame and the David Hayes-trained Eagle Falls.

Eagle Falls is set to jump from barrier one on Saturday, the Damien Oliver mount coming off some eye-catching runs including a third place finish in the Manikato Stakes last month.

The Salinger Stakes will run as Race 8 at Flemington on Saturday, the second last event on the card, after which the 2010 Melbourne Cup Barrier Draw will take place live on track.

If you want to get in on the Victoria Derby Day betting action, avoid the TAB and their inferior odds and sign up with Luxbet instead for the Tote + 20% on every Group Melbourne race!
