Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Twelve classy horses make up the $500,000 Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) field this year, with star mares Hot Danish and Typhoon Tracy sure to dominate the betting markets at Luxbet despite both drawing wide.
Reigning Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy returns to the Myer Classic on Saturday to defend her title after winning by nearly five lengths over Lady Lynette 12 months ago.
The Peter Moody-trained Red Ransom five-year-old is drawn in barrier 10 and is due to be ridden by regular jockey Luke Nolen as Typhoon Tracy attempts to improve on her last start fifth to Zipping in the Turnbull Stakes at this track.
The Les Bridge-trained Hot Danish, who finished fifth to Typhoon Tracy in the Myer Classic last year after badly missing the start, is set to jump from barrier 11 with Tim Clark aboard as the consistent seven-year-old attempts her third Group 1 victory and to atone for last year’s defeat.
The Nothin’ Leica Dane mare is in brilliant spring form, winning both the Premiere Stakes and The Shorts in Sydney before running a gallant second to Black Caviar in the Schweppes Stakes at Moonee Valley last Saturday.
The other top pick from the Myer Stakes field is Thousand Guineas winner Yosei, the Stuart Webb-trained filly drawn ideally in barrier two and with just 49kg on her back looks an exciting lightweight chance to add into the Trifecta bets with the favourites.
Other notable runners in the Myer Stakes field include Grahame Begg’s Blazer Stakes winner Palacio De Cristal (barrier eight), Tristarc Stakes champion Culminate (barrier four) and the Anthony Cummings-trained Lovemelikearock coming up trumps with barrier one.
The 2010 Myer Classic is scheduled as Race 7 at Flemington on Saturday, one event after the $1.5 million Victoria Derby (2500m).
