The closing race on the 2010 Cox Plate card this afternoon is Race 9 – the $150,000 Group 3 Pulse Pharmacy Stakes (1600m) jumping at 6:20pm (AEDST).
The 2010 Pulse Pharmacy Stakes, formerly called the Inglis Mile and the Tesio Stakes, features a final field of 15 mares with emergencies Zantelagh and Our Tigress both gaining a start after the scratching of #8 Lovemelikearock and #12 Absolute Faith.
Current favourite to win is New Zealand mare Katie Lee making her Australian racing debut at Moonee Valley today.
A smart four-year-old coming off a win in NZ at the start of the month, Katie Lee is currently paying $4.40 to win the final Cox Plate Day race through Luxbet.
After her dominant win over 1400m last start where she pulled out an astounding late burst, we rate Katie Lee highly to do even better over the mile and are backing the favourite in Race 9.
Moonee Valley – Race 9 – Pulse Pharmacy Stakes
- Races.com.au Favourite: #1 Katie Lee – Rated Special to Win at $4.40 Luxbet
- Best Place Chances: #2 Lady Lynette, #15 Preventable and #16 Zantelagh – Luxbet
For a bit of extra value we have selected our three other favourite mares to include into the exotics with Katie Lee in the Pulse Pharmacy Stakes today.
Reigning champion Lady Lynette has drawn wide, but the consistent six-year-old has been right up there in her starts this season finishing third to Avienus in the Stocks Stakes, fourth in the Blazer and was a gallant third over the mile last start at Caulfield.
Twelve months ago she won this race coming off a 1600m victory at Caulfield, so her preparation has been similar and she should handle the track well.
John Thompson’ Preventable is the form mare coming into this one on the back of three straight wins. Drawn ideally in barrier two, Preventable is tough and continues to win and should be able to match the grade and finish in the money today.
The other runner we rate to Place is Zantelagh. The Mark Kavanagh-trained Zabeel grey gaining a start as the first emergency and now right in contention.
Coming off a last start win over 1800m at Caulfield where she was extremely impressive, Zantelagh is at good odds for this and has genuine claims.
