Today the 2010 Cox Plate will take place at Moonee Valley Racecourse, another chapter in history set to be written when the $3 million weight-for-age event runs as Race 8 at 5:35pm (AEDST), and to celebrate we are taking a look back over the past four Cox Plate results in a video retrospective.

Starting with So You Think’s emphatic victory 12 months ago, followed by the Cox Plate wins by Maldivian in 2008, El Segundo in 2007 and Fields Of Omagh’s historic success as a nine-year-old in 2006 – below you can enjoy re-watching some of the great Cox Plate moments before getting in on the action of today’s race.

2009 Cox Plate Results – So You Think Beats Manhattan Rain and Zipping

It was another feather in the cap for maestro trainer Bart Cummings when his emerging three-year-old So You Think went out at $14 to claim a comprehensive victory over fellow three-year-old Manhattan Rain and veteran runner Zipping in the 2009 Cox Plate.

So You Think is back to defend his title today and is the red hot favourite to do so. Zipping is also a part of the 2010 Cox Plate field, lining up in the race for the fourth year in a row.

2008 Cox Plate Results – Maldivian Beats Zipping and Samantha Miss

Zabeel gelding Maldivian was one of the strongest Cox Plate winners of all time, leading all-the-way in the testing 2040m battle to score victory over Zipping and Samantha Miss.

Maldivian was prepared by trainer Mark Kavanagh, who would go on to win the Melbourne Cup the following year with Shocking.

Runner-up in 2006, El Segundo dug deep and did one better in 2007 claiming a classy win and avenging for his close defeat by Fields Of Omagh the year before in the Cox Plate.

2006 Cox Plate Results – Fields Of Omagh Beats El Segundo and Pompeii Ruler

One of the greatest Cox Plate winners in history Fields Of Omagh created a new age record in 2006 when he become the first nine-year-old to win the Cox Plate.

By this stage Fields of Omagh had become part of the furniture at Moonee Valley’s feature race, having won back in 2003, finished second to Savabeel in 2004 and third to the mighty Makybe Diva in 2005.

A momentous run and a special end to the career of a turf champion, Fields Of Omagh retired after his 2006 Cox Plate success.
