Arrow Training Services Stakes Winner Zubbaya Beats Absolutely and Ambers Waltz – Cox Plate Day Race 2 Results

This afternoon the Lee Freedman-trained Zubbaya became the winner of Race 2 on Cox Plate Day, securing victory in the $100,000 Listed Arrow Training Services Stakes (1600m) ahead of a classy field of three-year-old fillies.

Going out at a generous price of around $8, Zubbaya was ridden to perfection by jockey Michael Walker, a great front-running hoop who knew exactly what to do with the Dubawi filly once they found the front.

Zubbaya looked for the lead instantly, overcoming an awkward barrier 11 draw to get to the front and set the pace with stablemate and odds-on favourite Ambers Waltz settling in second.

After the turn Zubbaya was never challenged, displaying a brilliant turn of foot to accelerate and open up on the field by a number of lengths.

With horse and jockey at their best, Zubbaya made a sensational charge for the line absolutely streaking away to claim an easy win over Absolutely, with Ambers Waltz in third.

Wearing blinkers for the first time improved Zubbaya today after her disappointing eight in the UCI Stakes at Flemington last start.

She has now won two of her eight career starts.

Connections are considering backing her up in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Derby Day next Saturday.

The first Group race at today’s Moonee Valley meeting is up next as Race 3 – the $150,000 Group 3 1300 Australia Stakes (1200m) jumps at 2:05pm (AEDST).

Current favourite is Happy Trails, but we are tipping $5 chance Lone Rock so back her now at a great price through Luxbet!
