2010 Prince of Wales Stakes Field, Barriers & Preview

While the action of the 2010 Cox Plate Day lights up the Moonee Valley track in Melbourne on Saturday, the countdown to the Perth Summer Racing Carnival continues in WA with Ascot Racecourse hosting one of their first Group meetings of the season headlined by the $125,000 Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes (1200m).

The 2010 Prince of Wales Stakes final field features 11 classy gallopers with Idyllic Prince and Waratah’s Secret battling for favouritism.

Currently both runners are equal favourites paying $4.80 through Luxbet, after odds on the Jim Taylor-trained Idyllic Prince drifted out from their original quote of $4.60.

The eight-year-old Scenic gelding is drawn ideally in barrier two and due to be ridden by Jason Brown, Idyllic Prince resuming racing on Saturday after a short two month spell following his victory in the Goodwood Sprint back in August.

The David Harrison-trained Waratah’s Secret has also come up trumps in the barrier draw set to start from gate three, the consistent four-year-old coming off back-to-back wins at Belmont.

The other top fancy in the Prince of Wales Stakes field is classy mare For Your Eyes Only currently paying $5 through Luxbet.

Other notable Prince of Wales Stakes runners include Fred Kersley’s Belmont Sprint winner Grand Nirvana, stablemate to Idyllic Prince Vain Raider and Hussonet gelding Werd.

The 2010 Prince Of Wales Stakes is scheduled as Race 7 at Ascot on Saturday as part of a bumper eight-event card.
