A cracker nine-race programme is set to light up Moonee Valley on Saturday for Cox Plate Day 2010 and the premier event for mares at the meeting is the $150,000 Group 3 Pulse Pharmacy Stakes (1600m).
Formerly called the Inglis Mile, the 2010 Pulse Pharmacy Stakes has attracted a capacity field of 15 mares plus three emergencies and is set to run as the closing race of the day.
Early favourites that are sure to be at the top of the betting markets when they open at Luxbet include New Zealand runner Katie Lee and the Anthony Cummings-trained Lovemelikearock.
Drawn well in barrier four, the Graeme Rogerson-trained Katie Lee is making her Australian race debut after a last-start win in New Zealand.
Lovemelikearock* has suffered a blow drawing the far outside barrier for Saturday, but having won the Angst Stakes two starts back before running a gallant fourth in the Ladies Day Vase with 2.5kg more than her weight for Saturday, the Fastnet Rock mare is still a top pick.
One runner that is an excellent Each Way chance is six-year-old Lady Lynette drawn in barrier 13.
The David and Scott Brunton-trained Lady Lynette is coming off a number of eye-catching runs this season including a third in the Stocks Stakes last month at Moonee Valley, fourth to Palacio De Cristal in the Blazer Stakes and a last-start third in the Ladies Day Vase.
Other notable mares in the Pulse Pharmacy Stakes field include Peter Moody’s veteran seven-year-old Ghostmilk ideally drawn on the rails in barrier one and Blazer Stakes third placegetter Strawberry Field.
First emergency for the race is the Mark Kavanagh-trained Zantelagh.
Zantelagh is a classy Zabeel mare who will gain a start if another runner is scratched, and if the grey gets into the field will have serious claims coming off a last-start win at Caulfield over 1800m and drawn well in barrier three.
The 2010 Pulse Pharmacy Stakes (formerly the Inglis Mile) is scheduled as Race 9 at Moonee Valley on Saturday and is due to jump at 6:20pm (AEDST).
