Versatile mare Set For Fame has won the fifth race on the Caulfield Cup Day card today, scoring victory in the $200,000 Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1100m).
The four-year-old Reset mare made it a double for trainer Peter Moody and jockey Luke Nolen on their home track at Caulfield today, who combined to take out the opening race with Alotta Spur earlier.
Set For Fame enjoyed a good jump and was nicely poised settling third behind the leaders.
Mark Kavanagh’s Definitely Ready also got away from the barriers well, taking to the front of the field and setting the pace.
With 300m to go Definitely Ready still held the lead by two lengths, but was beginning to tire.
At the 100m mark Set For Fame pulled out her brilliant turn of foot, diving to the front and running well clear to score a comprehensive win.
On the line it was Set For Fame ahead of Dubleanny with odds-on favourite Soul in third.
Mick Price’s mare Dubleanny put in a tough and genuine display on the straight, rolling out to beat home Soul in her first-up run for the season.
Soul was given every possible chance, but after being held up a little at the top of the straight they didn’t have the grit to stop Set For Fame.
Early leader Definitely Ready eventually weakened to finish fifth.
Set For Fame has now won five of her 12 career starts and will head to Flemington next for the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The next race at the Caulfield Cup meeting will be Race 6 – the $125,000 Group 3 Betfair Stakes (1400m) jumping at 2:40pm (AEDST).
