Mr Chard Wins 2010 Hoyts Food-Spices Stakes – Caulfield Race 2 Results

Mr Chard has won the second of 10 races at Caulfield Cup Day today, beating home a field of top three-year-old colts and geldings in the $100,000 Listed Hoyts Food-Spices Stakes (1400m).

Going out as a $5.50 shot at Ladbrokes.com.au, the Dean Lawson-trained Mr Chard is a tough and improving Al Samer colt who had all the running today.

Hot favourite Skilled jumped well and kicked through to retain the rails and the lead with Ace Acosta following in second.

Skilled and Ace Acosta set the pace and were in a two horse race for much of the going, level at the 600m and fighting it out stride for stride on the home straight.

Then with 100m to go Mr Chard, ridden patiently by Craig Williams, came through the field to run down them down and steal the lead.

Mr Shard and Williams sat off the back of the them in a good spot, before going to the front to win pulling away.

On the line it was Mr Shard a little over a length from Skilled, the favourite finishing second in a photo result with eventual third placegetter Ace Acosta.

Mr Chard has now won two of his eight career starts.

The next race on the card at Caulfield is Race 3 – the $100,000 Listed Sportingbet Stakes (2000m) due to jump at 12:45pm (AEDST) where Zutara is our top pick.
