2010 Caulfield Sprint Final Field, Barrier Draw & Preview

This Saturday Caulfield Racecourse will come to life with the highly anticipated Caulfield Cup Day featuring a bumper 10-race card including the $200,000 Group 2 Caulfield Sprint (1000m).

The 2010 Caulfield Sprint final field features nine quality gallopers including the highest rated entry and top-weight with 57kg, Eagle Falls.

The David Hayes-trained Eagle Falls * is coming off a solid third to master sprinter Hay List in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley, where the five-year-old Hussonet gelding carried 58.5kg.

On Saturday Eagle Falls will jump from barrier three with Damien Oliver aboard and dropping back in both weight and distance from their last start will likely start at the top of the betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Another Caulfield Sprint runner that will be a favourite with punters is Peter Snowden’s Commands gelding Soul.

The lightly-raced three-year-old has had just four starts for two wins and two seconds, most recently claiming victory in the Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington in early September.

Coming back from a five week break, Soul should be fresh and is a definite contender drawing mid-field with barrier five.

Meanwhile, General Truce has come up trumps in the barrier draw with the inside running from gate one on Saturday.

The improving three-year-old gelding recently placed third in both the Danehill Stakes and the Schillaci Stakes, making General Truce an excellent Place chance again in the Caulfield Sprint.

Other notable Caulfield Sprint starters include Peter Moody’s improving mare Set For Fame (barrier nine), the Mark Kavanagh-trained Definitely Ready drawn well in barrier four and Mick Price’s super consistent mare Dubleanny (barrier seven).

The 2010 Perrie Cutten Caulfield Sprint is scheduled as Race 5 at Caulfield on Saturday and is due to jump at 2:00pm (AEDST).

Saturday’s meeting is headlined by the $2.5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) featuring a star-studded field including Shocking, Alcopop and Faint Perfume.

Other feature Group races on the card worth a punt on include the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) featuring champion mare Hot Danish and the Group 3 David Jones Cup (2000m).

For the best price on every horse in all the Caulfield races this Saturday, take five minutes to sign up with Ladbrokes.com.au today and be instantly rewarded with a free bet bonus!
