The John O’Shea-trained Solar Charged was far too good for her rivals this afternoon, winning the final Group race at Caulfield Guineas Day beating a boom field of fillies in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m).
Speedy Charge Forward filly Solar Charged ($5.50) was tipped to lead and that’s exactly what she did, bursting from barrier 12 to take to the front at a blistering pace.
In an impressive run by both horse and rider, jockey Nash Rawiller in the mount kept her rolling as Solar Charged lead all the way in an incredible form turnaround from her last start failure at Moonee Valley where she finished ninth to Lone Rock in the Champagne Stakes.
Today Solar Charged was definitely on the right foot, pulling away at the 200m mark to open it up and coast home ahead of Jesse’s Girl ($5) to win by an emphatic four and a quarter lengths, with Dance Of The Ocean ($21) coming from well back to finish a short-head further away in third.
Odds-on favourite Military Rose ($3.60) was sitting second to Solar Charged in the early stages of the race, but dropped right of contention on the home straight.
Now a winner of three of her eight career starts, connections will see how Solar Charged pulls up from her win today and then look at a run in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on Victoria Derby Day at Flemington.
It was an impressive first look at the Caulfield track for Solar Charged, O’Shea wanting to trail her there in anticipation of a run in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate in February next year.
The closing race at today’s Caulfield meeting is Race 9 – the Listed Sprint Series Final (1200m) where Avenue is our top pick to win at $4.80.
