So You Think Wins 2010 Yalumba Stakes in Ideal Cox Plate Lead up – Caulfield Race 5 Results

Superstar So You Think maintained his dominant spring form with an impressive win in the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m) in Race 5 at Caulfield today.

The hot favourite starting at $1.40 to win, Bart Cummings’ brilliant four-year-old made it three spring wins in a row running the ideal Cox Plate preparation.

So You Think enjoyed a good jump with jockey Steven Arnold letting him sit on the outside behind early leader Red Ruler.

Settling well, So You Think remained in second throughout Arnold keeping him poised and idling outside the reader ready to strike.

On the bend Arnold let So You Think loose, the star High Chaparral horse opening it up to lead by two lengths.

Last year’s beaten Melbourne Cup favourite Alcopop begun to move up on the outside, while Mark Kavanagh’s Whobegotyou tried hard but made little impression.

So You Think was just too good in the end, running hard to the line finishing first by just over three lengths.

It was an eye-catching run by Alcopop ($41) who showed great ability to run down Whobegotyou ($3.80) and finish in second.

Alcopop is set to back up in the Caulfield Cup next Saturday and is now sure to shorten dramatically in the markets.

So You Think was much more relaxed today, stepping into his stride ready to defend his Cox Plate title on October 23.

Today was So You Think’s sixth career win from nine starts.

The next race to jump at Caulfield is Race 6 – the Toorak Handicap where More Joyous is the odds-on favourite to win.
