Herbert Power Stakes Betting Tips – Caulfield Race 3

The first of the six anticipated Group races due to run at Caulfield Guineas Day today is Race 3, the $200,000 Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m), due to jump at 1:15pm (AEDST).

The 2010 Herbert Power Stakes final field features 10 quality gallopers, with two Caulfield Cup hopefuls, Moudre and Precedence fighting for favouritism in the betting market.

Currently the Ciaron Maher-trained Moudre is the leading the odds paying $2.40 at Sportsbet, with Bart Cummings’ JRA Cup winner Precedence hot on their heels shortening into $3 overnight with money coming in for them.

But the Races.com.au team have looked at the form and are tipping an upset, rating Linton as the best chance to win the Herbert Power Stakes today.

The Lloyd Williams-owned Linton ran third in the JRA Cup last start, the lightly-raced Galileo grey stepping up to 2400m for the first time but is ideally positioned in barrier three today.

Caulfield – Race 3 – Herbert Power Stakes

Looking at the field of runners in the Herbert Power Stakes, the two best horses to put a Place of Each Way bet on through Sportsbet are Moudre and Precedence.

Warrnambool gelding Moudre is coming off consistent form this season and needs to win for the Caulfield Cup ballot exemption.

The five-year-old also has good experience at the Caulfield track having won the Heatherlie Stakes by over three lengths last month and then finishing third to Rainbow Styling in the Naturalism Stakes last start.

Precedence is ideally drawn on the rails in barrier one, has won over 2400m before making the Zabeel gelding another top pick.

These three runners are dominating the odds, but for punters wanting to back a roughie our pick is Apprehend.

An excellent lightweight chance carrying just 54kg, the lesser-known Caulfield Cup entry finished third to Moudre in the Heatherlie and is coming off an eye-catching fourth in the Naturalism.
