2009 Caulfield Guineas Winner – Starspangledbanner

Starspangledbanner caused an upset in the 2009 Caulfield Guineas, going out at $13 to lead-all-the-way in a classy victory over Carra and Manhattan Rain. Odds-on favourite Denman finished a well-beaten seventh. Winner Starspangledbanner went on to claim success in Europe, earmarked as one of Australia’s best gallopers.

2008 Caulfield Guineas Winner – Whobegotyou

Mark Kavanagh’s Street Cry gelding Whobegotyou is now one of the top performing weight-for-age stars on the racing scene, but two years ago he was a lightly-raced three-year-old who burst onto the scene with a dominant victory in the 2008 Caulfield Guineas. Fighting back after being more than 10 lengths back from the field early, Whobegotyou beat Time Thief and Von Costa De Hero.

2005 Caulfield Guineas Winner – God’s Own

Hailed as one of the best wins in Australian racing history, in the 2005 Caulfield Guineas the Bart Cummings-trained God’s Own got badly checked just 20 seconds in but recovered, fought his way back through the field and snared a devastatingly close victory over Paratroppers and Primus.

2002 Caulfield Guineas Winner – Helenus

Back in 2002 the Leon Corstens-trained Helenus was new to the racing scene having had just five career starts before taking on a quality field in the Caulfield Guineas. He would prove to be a turf champion, however, backing up his terrific Guineas win over Bel Esprit and Choisir with two more group wins that season in the AAMI Vase and Victoria Derby.
