2010 Crown Oaks

The 2010 Crown Oaks is the premier race for three-year-old fillies during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival and will take place at Flemington on Thursday November 4 as the feature race of Crown Oaks Day.

Held on the third day of Flemington’s famous four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival, the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) always attracts a top class field of the season’s best three-year-old fillies.

The 2010 Crown Oaks, scheduled as Race 4, is the only Group race held on ‘Ladies Day’ but with eight other events including four Listed races there are plenty of betting opportunities!

The other black-type races worth a punt on at the meeting include the Listed Myer Spring Fashion Stakes (1300m) and the Listed Gucci Stakes (1200m).

2010 Crown Oaks Day Black-Type Races:

  • $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m)
  • $150,000 Listed Myer Spring Fashion Stakes (1800m)
  • $150,000 Listed Gucci Stakes (1200m)
  • $150,000 Listed Swisse Vitamins Stakes (1100m)
  • $150,000 Listed Crown Promenade Stakes (1100m)

The 2010 Crown Oaks Nominations were released on September 21 and drew 89 entries.

With the nominations, Australia’s leading online bookmaker Sportsbet opened their Crown Oaks betting markets giving punters the chance to lock in generous early odds on their favourite fillies.

The current odds-on favourite to become this year’s Crown Oaks winner is Michael Moroney’s consistent Captain Rio filly Brazilian Pulse, leading the betting at $6 after an eye-catching second in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on October 3.

Other fillies high up in the Crown Oaks betting at this stage are Peter Snowden’s Thousand Guineas Prelude winner Divorces at $7, improving O’Reilly galloper Shamrocker paying $9 and Gai Waterhouse’s spring star More Strawberries at the generous quote of $11.

2010 Crown Oaks Betting Odds

  • Brazilian Pulse ($6)
  • Divorces ($7.50)
  • Shamrocker ($9)
  • More Strawberries ($11)
  • Ringa Ringa Rosie ($13)
  • Yosei ($13)
