Profound Beauty Confirmed for 2010 Melbourne Cup

Dermot Weld’s star seven-year-old Profound Beauty has been confirmed for the 2010 Melbourne Cup this spring, the mare Weld’s top chance of giving the Irish trainer his third Melbourne Cup victory.

Danehill mare Profound Beauty has been in sensational form this season winning both the Challenge Stakes and Ballyroan Stakes before finishing a gallant second to fellow Melbourne Cup hopeful Sans Frontieres in the Irish St Leger at the start of the month.

After speaking with Profound Beauty’s owners, Weld has stated that she will be sent to Melbourne for the 150th Melbourne Cup on Tuesday November 2 at Flemington.

A winner of nine of her 20 career starts for $931,849 in prize money, Profound Beauty ran in the 2008 Melbourne Cup finishing fifth to Viewed and is currently 10th on the order of entry for this year’s race.

Profound Beauty will be ridden by regular jockey Pat Smullen for the $6 million Melbourne Cup, giving Smullen his fourth Melbourne Cup mount.

Premier online bookmaker Sportsbet have Profound Beauty at $17 in their Melbourne Cup odds, with current Cup champion Shocking the $9 favourite.

Following some controversy over her arrival in Australia, Profound Beauty is now scheduled to land Down Under today, which is the final quarantine cut off date for international spring contenders.
