Sistine Angel Wins 2010 Edward Manifold Stakes as Favourite Divorces Finishes 11th

In an upset result at Flemington on Sunday, the Andrew Noblet-trained Sistine Angle beat a field of quality fillies to win the $250,000 Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m).

Testa Rossa filly Sistine Angel went out at $9 in the 2010 Edward Manifold Stakes and was able to defeat Brazilian Pulse ($13) by a head with the Danny O’Brien-trained Shamrocker ($11) in third.

Hot favourite Divorces ($3.80) had a horror run after missing the start by four lengths and finished a disappointing 11th, which saw the Peter Snowden-trained Thousand Guineas Prelude winner drift out to $7.50 to win the 2010 Crown Oaks odds after previously dominating the betting for the Melbourne Cup Carnival feature.

Following their eye-catching second place finish in the Edward Manifold, Michael Moroney’s previously unbeaten Captain Rio filly Brazilian Pulse has leapfrogged in the Crown Oaks odds now the $6 favourite.

Sistine Angel, who took out the McNeil Stakes at Caulfield last month before running second to Divorces in the Thousand Prelude, has now won two of her six career starts for $272,550 in prize money.

She will next target the $1 million Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 13, and is the equal $6.50 favourite with More Strawberries to win at Sportsbet, firming in from $11.

Trainer Andrew Noblet will be vying for his maiden Group 1 victory with Sistine Angle in the Thousand Guineas.
