This Saturday at Randwick’s Epsom Handicap Day a top class programme of racing will take place including the $200,000 Group 2 The Sydney City Lexus Shorts (1200m).
The 2010 The Shorts has drawn a final field of 11 gallopers headlined by glamour mare Hot Danish.
Les Bridge’s star seven-year-old Hot Danish is the raging favourite to win Saturday’s showdown following her emphatic first-up win in the Premiere Stakes at Rosehill a fortnight ago.
Australia’s leading online bookie Sportsbet have installed Hot Danish as the $1.70 favourite to win, the Group 1 winning daughter of Nothin’ Leica Dane set to jump from barrier eight with Tim Clark aboard.
Other horses with claims in The Shorts on Saturday that have had money come in for them are Albert The Fat, Shellscrape and Dao Dao.
Second favourite behind Hot Danish in the odds is $8 chance Dao Dao in barrier four.
The Hawkes-trained seven-year-old ran a gallant second in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes in the autumn but was spelled after a last place finish in the Group 1 Champions Mile in Hong Kong.
Resuming racing on Saturday, Dao Dao had a promising barrier trial win at Rosehill earlier in the month and will be ridden by Rod Quinn.
Six-year-old gelding Albert The Fat is also resuming racing for the season and despite drawing the far outside barrier 11 is at $8.50 through Sportsbet.
Shellscrape is another runner returning in The Shorts after a spell, Chris Waller’s four-year-old coming off a solid barrier trial at the Randwick track and drawn in barrier five.
Good value runners to include in a Trifecta with Hot Danish include Gai Waterhouse’s consistent mare Montana Flyer, Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Tickets drawn well and expected to improve second-up, and the Peter Snowden-trained Pinwheel.
The 2010 The Sydney City Lexus Shorts is scheduled as Race 9 at Randwick on Saturday due to jump at 4:40pm and follows a bumper day of racing.
Earlier highlights on the card include the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) where Herculian Prince will start the favourite, and the marquee race of the day, the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m).
