Caulfield Guineas Day 2010 on Saturday October 9 will feature a great card of races to be aired on Channel 9.
The Caulfield Guineas Day race card will give punters 9 action packed races, including six Group events and a Listed race. It is held at Caulfield Racecourse, in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
The Group 1 Caulfield Guineas is the major feature of this card, with a prize pool of more than $1 million. A 1600 metre race under set weight conditions, the Caulfield Guineas is one of the most important races for 3-year-olds in Australia.
The Group 1 Yalumba Stakes is another race on the Caulfield Guineas Day card. A Weight-for-Age race over 2000 metres, the Yalumba Stakes acts as an indicator for big races later in the season such as the Cox Plate.
A third major feature of Caulfield Guineas Day is the Group 1 Toorak Handicap. It is a handicap race over 1600 metres that acts as a great indicator race for handicap races at similar distances.
Two Group 2 races and a Group 3 race will also feature on Caulfield Guineas Day, along with a single Listed race and some other minor events. The Group 2s are the 2400 metre Presentation Stakes and the 1000 metre Schillaci Stakes. The Presentation Stakes is run under quality handicap conditions, while the Schillaci Stakes is a Weight-for-Age sprint.
The Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes tests 3-year-old fillies over a 1200 metre sprint under set weight and penalty conditions, while the Listed Northwood Plume Stakes sets mares on a 1200 metre sprint under the same conditions.
