2010 Cox Plate Second Declarations – Heart Of Dreams Out for the Spring Carnival

Forty-nine weight-for-age stars remain in contention for the 2010 Cox Plate after second declarations were taken yesterday.

The $3 million Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) will take place at Moonee Valley on October 23 and Bart Cummings’ reigning champion So You Think is still the hot favourite in the Cox Plate betting markets following the second declaration stage, his price slashed to $2.50 at Sportsbet.

Cummings opted not to pay up for So You Think for the 2010 Caulfield Cup second declarations, which were also taken yesterday, instead focusing on the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup this spring.

Current Caulfield Cup favourite Dariana and Allez Wonder are the other two Cox Plate acceptances for the Cups King.

Other early favourites at Sportsbet to win the Cox Plate that were paid up for yesterday include Whobegotyou, Shoot Out, More Joyous and Typhoon Tracy.

Notable absentees from the 2010 Cox Plate second declarations include Heart Of Dreams who is out for the spring after jarring up in Saturday’s Underwood Stakes, Largo Lad also out due to injury, last year’s beaten Melbourne Cup favourite Alcopop, Golden Rose winner Toorak Toff, Sniper’s Bullet and Caulfield Cup bound Moudre.

Notable Absentees from 2010 Cox Plate Second Declarations:

  • Heart Of Dreams (Mick Price)
  • Alcopop (Jake Stephens)
  • Toorak Toff (Rick Hore-Lacy)
  • Sniper’s Bullet (Tracey Bartley)
  • Moudre (Ciaron Maher)
  • Largo Lad (David Hayes)
  • Faint Perfume (Bart Cummings)

Just one overseas contender remains in Cox Plate contention, Macau’s Luen Yat Forever.

There were 71 acceptors in the 2010 Caulfield Cup Second Declarations, including seven international runners, while 44 remain in contention for the Caulfield Guineas and 58 in the Thousand Guineas after second declarations yesterday.

Second declarations for the iconic 150th Melbourne Cup will be out on October 5 and published here so bookmark this page.

Our preferred online bookie [sportsbet] have now adjusted the betting markets for both the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup so check out the new odds and lock in a better price on your favourites today!
