2010 Caulfield Guineas Second Declarations Leave 44 in Contention

Forty-four star three-year-olds remain in contention for the 2010 Caulfield Guineas after second declarations for the Melbourne Spring Carnival feature were taken yesterday, 48 horses dropping out of the race from the first acceptance stage.

The raging favourite to win the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 9 is Toorak Toff, who firmed into $5 at Sportsbet following second acceptances yesterday.

Other horses at the top of the market include Ilovethiscity ($5.50) and Anacheeva who firmed from $11 into an $8 Caulfield Guineas chance after the Peter Moody-trained colt beat Toorak Toff in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude last Saturday.

Notable Omissions from 2010 Caulfield Guineas Second Declarations:

  • Altius (Tony Vasil)
  • Giresun (Peter Snowden)
  • Pinker Pinker (Greg Eurell)
  • Praecido (David Payne)
  • Retrieve (Peter Snowden)
  • Shamrocker (Danny O’Brien)
  • Willow Creek (Peter Moody)

Notable absentees from the 2010 Caulfield Guineas second declarations include Tony Vasil’s top colt Altius targeting the Victoria Derby on October 30 instead, while fillies Pinker Pinker and Willow Creek will bypass the race in favour of the Thousand Guineas the following Wednesday.

Altius was one of 88 horses nominated for the 2010 Victoria Derby on Tuesday.

The second acceptances for a number of the other spring majors were also released yesterday.

The 2010 Cox Plate Second Declarations and 2010 Caulfield Cup Second Declarations have left 49 and 71 horses still in contention respectively.

If you are ready to get in on the spring carnival action then now is the perfect time to sign up with [sportsbet] and lock in top price on your favourites!
