Midweek Horse Racing Today – Spring Stakes & Cameron Handicap

Midweek horse racing today, Wednesday 15th September, will feature five race meetings including metropolitan racing and two group races.

The highlight today will be the first day of the two-day Newcastle Gold Cup Carnival at Broadmeadow Racecourse in Newcastle, part of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.

The $175,000 Group 3 Spring Stakes, run over 1,600 metres, is Race 6 on the card at Newcastle today and will jump at 16:00 (AEST). Of the 16 horses in the final field the ones to keep an eye on in today’s Spring Stakes include Ilovethiscity who ran third last start in the Group 1 Golden Rose over 1,400 metres, Peter Moody’s Giresun, Gai Waterhouse’s Al Aseel and Crown Oaks hopeful Chula Vista.

The second group race today is the $150,000 Group 3 Cameron Handicap over 1,300 metres, Race 7 at 16:40 (AEST) in Newcastle. The 13 horse final field includes Lonhro gelding Pinwheel, Concorde Stakes third placegetter Trusting, Gai Waterhouse’s highly rated Rock Kingdom and the first run of the spring for Star of Octagonal.

At Kalgoorlie today the feature race will be Race 7, the $130,000 Hannan’s Handicap over 1,400 metres, jumping at 18:20 (AEST). Favourites include Foxy Boy, Golden Heart and Blacksmith.
