2010 Stocks Stakes Final Field Lead by Melbourne Cup Hopeful Faint Perfume

News - Race Previews - Spring Racing
9 September 2010

This Saturday as part of the racing action lighting up the Moonee Valley track, a capacity field of 15 mares will contest the $200,000 Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m).

Despite drawing wide in the 2010 Cleanevent Stocks Stakes, Bart Cummings’ 2010 Melbourne Cup hopeful Faint Perfume is sure to dominate the betting markets when they open at Sportsbet.

Four-year-old Shamardal mare Faint Perfume will jump from barrier 11 on Saturday but with multiple Group 1 wins up her sleeve including last year’s Crown Oaks, Cummings is expecting Faint Perfume to improve second-up after finishing eighth in the Memsie Stakes last start.

The Stocks Stakes field also features a number of runners that are backing up from a run in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

Let’s Elope Stakes Runners Backing up in Stocks Stakes:

  • Lady Lynette (4th)
  • Mont Fleuri (6th)
  • Small Minds (11th)

Other mares that the punters will get behind include Ghostmilk, Lady Lynette and Valdemoro.

Tony Vasil’s daughter of Encosta De Lago, Valdemoro finished second to Faint Perfume in both the Crown Oaks and Storm Queen Stakes last spring and has also drawn wide with barrier 13.

With two of the favourites suffering a blow with the barrier draw, Peter Moody’s Winter Stakes runner-up Ghostmilk and Lets Elope Stakes fourth placegetter Lady Lynette come into contention after drawing barriers six and three respectively.

Another mare drawn well that is an enticing Place bet at Sportsbet, is the Lee Freedman-trained Mont Fleuri in barrier two.

It is a bumper day of racing scheduled for Moonee Valley on Saturday, with other headline events including the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) where 2010 Cox Plate hopefuls Whobegotyou, Shoot Out and Typhoon Tracy will face off, and the Group 3 McEwen Stakes where the Peter Moody-trained Concorde Stakes winner Reward For Effort will start the favourite.

Don’t bet on any of these Moonee Valley races until you sign up with Australia’s most trusted bookmaker Sportsbet, who guarantee better odds than the TAB and have a free $100 bet waiting for new customers!
