Star Witness Missing from 2010 Caulfield Guineas First Declarations

Blue Diamond Stakes winner Star Witness is the most notable absentee from the 2010 Caulfield Guineas first declarations that were taken yesterday.

There are now 92 horses still in contention for the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), due to run at Caulfield on Saturday October 9.

The list of Caulfield Guineas first declarations is missing 170 of the original entries for the three-year-olds feature including the Danny O’Brien Star Witness.

The smart colt will be reserved for sprint races later on at the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival after a minor injury has marred his Caulfield Guineas preparations.

With Star Witness out, the pronounced favourite with the punters is Golden Rose winner Toorak Toff paying $6 at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Other early favourites to win the 2010 Caulfield Guineas following the first declarations include Ilovethiscity ($7) and Masquerader ($12).

First declarations for the other major spring features including the 2010 Melbourne Cup, 2010 Caulfield Cup and the 2010 Cox Plate were also out yesterday, and to view the list of remaining horses for each Group 1 event click on the links.
